C3’s Chris Fisher Returns From ACL-Regional Tournament With Multiple First Place Finishes

Chris Fisher competed in the Alamo City Cornhole ACL Regional #3 over this past weekend. Chris returned to Corpus Christi with a first place finish in Singles and a first place finish in Doubles with doubles partner, Jonathon Ibarra. Both championships were secured within the ACL Competitive division; this was a a great showing by Chris and Jonathon given that this was their first ever play in the Competitive division. Moreover, Chris Fisher secured a second place finish in Doubles Blind Draw with blind draw partner, Chris Michaelis. All-in-all, an excellent showing at a very competitive event.

A few interesting tidbits from this event:

-Jonathon Ibarra had a very strong doubles performance

-Chris Fisher, on his run the the Singles championship, had a 1 to 1.5 hour break between games as he awaited his next opponent; he entered his next game extremely cold with no time to warm-up. Chris quickly went down 12 -1 to a very warmed-up, highly skilled opponent. Chris collected himself and stepped up his game to first stop the bleeding. With bleeding stopped, he then started to focus on recovering the lost points; cornholes were the name of the game thereafter! Chris went on a 20 to 3 run to secure the win (21 to 15)! Without this come from behind win, his championship might have never happened.

-The Advanced level players, including the event promoter, were asking (demanding?) why Chris and Jonathon were not playing in the Advanced division given their excellent skills. Chris and Jonathon are very new to tournaments and hope to remain in the Competitive division to gain more experience, but will have to see if this is allowed in future events.
